Blue Top Gardens
I was asked to create a logo for a client who owned her own landscaping business and was working on establishing herself in the community. She wanted something that was unique but would still appeal to the older, quintessential age demographic who would be seeking landscaping services.
Communicating with the Client

I first started this process by asking the client a series of questions about her company: what were descriptive words she often used to describe her company, who were her primary clients, who were her main competitors, etc.
I then asked if there were any elements that she wanted me to include or not include. She mentioned that she wanted a logo that would appeal to an older, more traditional client base, made clear what her company did, but was slightly different from other horticulture and landscaping companies.
The client also wanted to include blue bell flowers as they were around her company's property and her husband had drawn her a photo of one that she liked.
First Draft
My first draft for this project included a circle logo with an open top. I chose this design for a number of reasons: circle logos are more unique and the open top represented innovative thinking, and the outdoors. I also drew an image of the barn where my client worked (which has an actual blue tin roof) and added in the blue bell flowers at the top.
I felt it was important to incorporate green in the logo to reference that this company dealt with plants, and it appealed to the more traditional parts of her client base. I used a more vibrant shade of blue to appeal to both tradition and freshness.

While the client loved the circle idea, color scheme, and flowers, she wanted to pull the focus away from her physical space and focus more on plants. So I went back to the drawing board!
